SITE GUIDE IN BRIEF

When the 'earth' image is at the top left of a page, as it is here, it indicates that page is a 'header' and may lead to several other pages. To return quickly to the start page, click on the earth image.

Because this is a big site, most of the buttons on the left navigation panel are intro pages which lead to other pages of related information, theory, practical hints, book sales, reading suggestions, web links, quiz pages, history, personalities, restoration... and more. IMPORTANT: Don't neglect the links where given or you will miss much. Think of the main pages as corridors leading to other rooms in a meandering maze and you won't go far wrong! Example? If you click on 'personalities' you will find links to 4 extra pages. Click on 'Restoration' and there's links to at least 14 more pages.

Just like Topsy, the site has grown and grown over the years and now has well over 100 pages of material. Please bookmark the site for return visits - there's far too much to take in at one reading.

Personal background

Qualified in Radio, TV and colour TV servicing, I worked in the rental TV trade and educational television programme production before training as a Design and Technology teacher, after which I taught technology in all its forms for many years before retirement in the summer of 2001. In between times, I gained a degree and ran my own retail TV, video and Hi-Fi shop and servicing business.

I've had articles published in 'TELEVISION', 'RADIO BYGONES', 'EVERYDAY PRACTICAL ELECTRONICS' and other magazines and my book, 'Design & Technology: Electronic Products for GCSE', is published by First & Best Ltd. My book 'Vintage Radios' is published by Crowood publications Ltd.

YOU ARE VERY WELCOME TO E-MAIL YOUR ENQUIRY (see foot of this page), BUT... please read the FAQ page first: your question may already be answered!

Enjoy the website and thanks for visiting. TONY THOMPSON BSc.,  Cert.Ed., CGLI, RTEB.

Service information and free advice

The data is priced as low as possible and the costs only reflect the work entailed in preparation. Advice is always free, so there’s no need to work 'blind'. Although I will always try to help in the best way I can, I cannot accept responsibility for the result of any action carried out as a result of my suggestions. After all, I can't be beside you when you are working on a radio. Safety must always be a prime consideration, as valve equipment usually has potentially lethal voltage levels and current availability.

Click on 'SEARCH TIPS' for a guide to receiver identification

Click on 'CIRCUIT ORDER' for a handy print-out form.

TAKE CARE, WORK SAFELY. PLEASE READ THE 'SAFETY' PAGE

The extensive range of circuit data available by post covers valve and early transistor equipment and includes radio, TV, car radio, record players, radiograms and tape recorders. If you can't find the set you want in the lists, it may be possible to help or suggest an alternative source.

VRW cannot supply components and valves but see the Links and Sources for people who do, or E-mail for advice.
