Colvern's advert
This edition
from December 7th 1935 had a full-colour cover instead of the normal red
and blue one and contained 'novel ideas for Xmas radio entertainment',
among which were 'broadcasting your own programme', 'radio party games'
and a complete script for a short radio play.
The back cover
of the Christmas edition was a blue and spot-red colour advert for Exide
and Drydex batteries, Exide being accumulator (wet) cell types. The
makers claimed that their batteries kept going when the rest have
stopped. Nothing new then, and long before Duracell's rabbit!
September
22nd, 1934 and Osram valves advertise their presence at radio shows,
with reduced prices. How true this could be when the BVA cartel was
all-pervading is hard to imagine.
Cossor and
other manufacturers often advertised in Practical Wireless in the early
years. It must have paid them to do so, though why they assumed the
readers of a magazine devoted to home construction would be interested
in purchasing a ready-made (and expensive) receiver is puzzling.
